I only buy and plant heirloom seeds because I do collect the seeds and save them. Not that I am saving them correctly but I do like the idea of having a backup plan in case TSHTF and seeds are in short supply. I also bought an emergency seed bank which I plan on posting here if you have the notion to get one like I did. It is a backup plan only to be used in emergencies same as dehydrated food storage which I also invested in. You only use your dehydrated food if you can't get your regular food. Let us all pray the world never gets that bad.

You may find that non-heirloom hybrid seeds cost less and that is mostly what you will find in the department stores. If I am in a hurry I will buy them but if I am in a hurry it means I did not plan my garden well in advance and am just throwing something in without giving much forethought to it. I have learned over the years it is much better to plan a garden well in advance as you will set it up better and it will take less weeding and be easier to take care of it is well planned. I sometimes get scolded if a certain someone finds out I have planted hybrid seeds as he thinks all hybrid seeds come from Monsanto and that if we eat the vegetables from hybrid seeds our organs will mutate and we will turn into strange creatures.
